Job Title: Electrical Engineer II
Job Description
The Electrical Engineer II executes electrical systems engineering assignments for new construction projects in a heavy industrial environment. Working under the direction of senior electrical leadership, this role participates in all phases of new design, including requirements decomposition, design preparation, supporting analysis, material selection and specification, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to complex programs while developing practical, buildable electrical power and control system designs within a multidisciplinary project team.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering and design support for assigned electrical power systems to ensure contract design requirements are met.
- Prepare complete electrical design and calculation packages, including load lists, single-line diagrams, cable diagrams, wiring and termination diagrams, and interface-control documents.
- Develop detailed design documents such as electrical load lists, electrical single-line diagrams, cable diagrams, instrumentation and controls lists, interface control diagrams, and termination and wiring diagrams.
- Perform formal and informal trade studies to determine efficient technical solutions to engineering problems and to meet material budgets for assigned systems.
- Identify opportunities to reduce material costs below budget while maintaining technical integrity and compliance with requirements.
- Develop material specifications and bills of material in alignment with established material strategies and customer requirements.
- Support all phases of the new-construction design lifecycle, including requirements decomposition, design preparation, analysis, material selection, engineering execution, and engineering close-out.
- Collaborate with a diverse, integrated project team to ensure effective systems integration practical designs.
- Contribute technical writing for reports, specifications, and design documentation with clarity and accuracy.
- Apply strong analytical problem-solving skills to diagnose issues, evaluate alternatives, and recommend robust engineering solutions.
- Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and respond to technical queries related to electrical power systems, controls, and instrumentation.
- Support material management activities by providing accurate bills of material and design inputs to purchasing and material-management systems.
- When applicable, provide guidance and technical support to junior engineers to ensure consistent design quality and knowledge sharing.
- Adhere to all site and employer safety policies while working in heavy industrial and engineering-office environments.
- Travel as required to support project and business needs, including site visits and coordination with stakeholders.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- At least 3 years of post-secondary experience in electrical engineering, controls, and instrumentation.
- Experience supporting electrical power-system design in a heavy industrial environment.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare electrical design and calculation packages, including load lists, single-line diagrams, cable diagrams, wiring and termination diagrams, and interface-control documents.
- Ability to independently develop material specifications and bills of material.
- Strong technical writing skills for producing clear, accurate engineering documentation.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills applied to electrical power, controls, and instrumentation systems.
- Capability to independently develop and review electrical design documentation and calculations.
- Ability and willingness to meet required travel expectations and comply with safety requirements in heavy industrial settings.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working within a diverse, integrated, multidisciplinary project team.
- Knowledge of MRP, purchasing, and material-management systems.
- Experience completing trade studies and identifying cost-effective design solutions.
- Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Strong knowledge of power distribution, controls, instrumentation, material specifications, and bills of material.
- Ability to optimize designs for cost, material efficiency, and engineering close-out in complex projects.
Work Environment
This role is based fully on site in an engineering-office environment. Work is performed within an integrated, multidisciplinary project team that collaborates closely across electrical power, controls, instrumentation, and systems integration disciplines.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of North Vancouver, BC.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
