About The Team
The Smart Cities & Emerging Technologies team helps the client identify, evaluate, and explore innovative technologies that can improve services, increase operational efficiency, and support future-ready municipal operations.
Operating with a startup-style mindset, the team works with the client's business units to investigate opportunities involving Artificial Intelligence (AI), Extended Reality (XR), robotics, automation, digital fabrication, and other emerging technologies. Through research, discovery, experimentation, and pilot initiatives, the team helps shape the future of innovation across the organization.
Position Overview
This is not a traditional Business Analyst role focused solely on software implementation projects or detailed system specifications.
The Intermediate Business Analyst will support innovation initiatives by engaging with business stakeholders, understanding operational challenges, conducting research, evaluating opportunities, and helping determine whether emerging technologies can provide value to the organization.
The successful candidate will combine strong business analysis skills with curiosity, research capabilities, stakeholder engagement, and strategic thinking. They will help guide opportunities from initial intake through discovery, analysis, and evaluation stages while supporting pilot and experimentation initiatives.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, facilitating discussions, researching new technologies, and helping organizations identify innovative solutions to business challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct discovery sessions and stakeholder interviews with City business units.
- Gather, document, and analyze business needs, objectives, and success criteria.
- Facilitate workshops and requirements-gathering sessions.
- Support innovation intake processes and opportunity assessments.
- Research emerging technologies, market trends, industry practices, and potential solutions.
- Analyze business challenges and identify opportunities for innovation and operational improvement.
- Develop business cases, requirements documentation, and evaluation materials.
- Support pilot initiatives, proofs of concept, and experimentation projects.
- Assist in defining success measures, benefits, outcomes, and evaluation criteria.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, analysts, and business stakeholders.
- Prepare presentations, reports, briefing materials, and recommendations for decision-makers.
- Document findings and provide recommendations regarding potential technology opportunities.

Job Type & Location

Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
