Job Title: Field InspectorJob Description
We are a fast-growing engineering consulting group expanding our operations in Western Canada, focusing on Infrastructure and Utilities projects. We are seeking a dedicated Field Inspector to join our Utilities Division based in New Westminster, BC. This role is crucial for delivering projects to various utility clients with a focus on electrical utility infrastructure. The ideal candidate is career-motivated, well-organized, and detail-oriented, with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Career progression is based on accuracy, independence, tool skill, and leadership. This field-based role requires extensive travel throughout British Columbia.
Responsibilities
- Master core technical tasks related to fieldwork, including advanced photography techniques, detailed note-taking, and precision in capturing measurements.
- Achieve proficiency with a wide range of field tools and equipment, such as IKE devices, calipers, and rangefinders.
- Understand and apply the ES43 standard in all field tasks, ensuring compliance and quality control.
- Lead and manage complex scenarios independently, including fieldwork involving Crossings, Railway areas, and Non-Standard situations.
- Develop and propose comprehensive field solutions, including innovative approaches for staking new poles or enhancing anchor installations.
- Mentor others in problem-solving strategies during fieldwork and provide guidance to junior team members.
- Demonstrate strong independent decision-making abilities while maintaining adherence to safety protocols and company policies.
- Identify, report, and document hazards, near misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions in accordance with company procedures.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with teammates, customers, and homeowners, ensuring clarity and alignment on project objectives.
- Embrace and provide constructive feedback to promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in construction, surveying, electrical/power engineering is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- 100% travel within British Columbia.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in utility, field inspection, construction, or surveying is an asset.
- BC Hydro overhead pole inspection experience is advantageous.
Work Environment
The work environment is within a mid-sized, multi-disciplinary team that is growing. The role involves extensive travel and fieldwork, often in rugged terrain and various weather conditions. Safety is a priority, with precautions such as repetitive lifting, striking motions, and the use of PPE. The team operates on a hybrid model, allowing for some remote work.

This is a Contract position based out of New Westminster, BC.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $38.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
