Job Description & Summary

A career in our Indirect Tax practice, within Tax services, will provide you with the opportunity to help our clients meet and manage their tax obligations across unique but ever-changing tax specialties. You’ll advise clients on their local and overseas tax affairs, while acting as a strategic consultant related to business analysis, managing indirect taxes, dispute resolution, and global enterprise tax solutions.

Our team helps our clients optimize cash flow and reduce risk by managing challenges related to indirect taxes. You’ll support our clients with all aspects of indirect taxation related to global, regional and domestic projects as well as comprehensive restructuring and reporting value added tax projects.

The opportunity

As an Indirect Tax Recovery Data Analytics, you’ll work as part of a team of problem solvers, leading the data and analytics workstream on indirect tax recovery engagements for a diverse client base. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading the extraction, transformation and analysis of large client data sets (accounts payable and general ledger data) from ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle and Microsoft Dynamics to support indirect tax recovery reviews
  • Designing and running data analytics routines and exception testing to identify unclaimed GST/HST, QST, provincial retail sales tax and other indirect tax refund opportunities
  • Working closely with indirect tax specialists to translate legislative rules into data logic, and to validate findings, quantify recoveries and support refund claims
  • Preparing clear dashboards, analyses, spreadsheets and summary reports that communicate recovery findings to engagement teams and clients
  • Engaging client finance, tax and IT stakeholders to scope data requests, understand system configurations and tax codes, and resolve data quality issues
  • Managing the data workstream on engagements, including timelines, budgets and deliverables, while upholding data security, confidentiality and quality standards
  • Developing and enhancing repeatable tools, scripts and automated workflows, including AI-enabled solutions, to improve the efficiency and scalability of recovery reviews
  • Coaching and mentoring team members on data analytics techniques and indirect tax concepts, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning
  • Demonstrating critical thinking and the ability to bring order to large, unstructured data sets and problems
  • Using straightforward communication, in a structured way, when influencing and connecting with others; reading situations and modifying behaviour to build quality relationships

What you'll bring

  • A minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in data analytics, ideally within indirect tax, including experience leading workstreams and supervising team members
  • Advanced proficiency with data analytics tools such as Fabric, Databricks and Alteryx, as well as advanced Excel skills. Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Power BI would be an asset
  • Experience extracting and working with large transactional data sets from ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Working knowledge of GST/HST, QST and provincial sales taxes, and how indirect taxes are recorded in financial systems
  • A completed accounting designation (CPA) or a degree in data analytics, computer science, finance or a related field would be an asset
  • An interest in upskilling for a digital world and technology trends, an openness to learning new tools and adapting how you work
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and to travel to client sites as required
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to explain technical data findings to non-technical audiences
  • A strong commitment to professional and client service excellence
  • Bilingual (French and English) would be an asset, but is not required

This position ensures continuity and upholds our standards of excellence following the departure of a valued team member.

We’re committed to providing accommodation throughout the application, interview, and employment process. If you require accommodation to be at your best, please let us know during the application process. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in recruiting is just getting started, so we know you have questions about how and why we use it. At certain points during our recruiting process, we rely on AI to improve your experience. This could be during resume review or curating personalized job recommendations, asking you clarifying questions via a chatbot or during our interview scheduling to improve your experience. Our use of AI helps ensure we combat bias by evaluating candidates equally and fairly, without seeing identity information, such as your name, or gender for example). AI also helps us better predict successful hires by reviewing all applicants for a role and the relationship between your skills, experience and likely success at PwC Canada. While AI supports parts of our recruitment process, final hiring decisions always involve human review. For more information about our use and protection of your data, please refer to our Privacy Policy (https://www.pwc.com/ca/en/privacy-policy.html).Nous tenons à répondre à vos besoins tout au long du processus de demande d’emploi, d’entrevue et d’embauche.
