Job Title: Intermediate Embedded Software Developer BSP/OS
Job Description
This role focuses on developing and maintaining lower-level embedded software that powers a major production infotainment platform. As an Intermediate Embedded Software Developer, you work on board support package (BSP) and operating system layers, including kernel drivers, core services, and system boot functionality. You contribute across the full embedded software lifecyclefrom architecture and implementation to debugging and deploymentensuring a stable, high-performance infotainment experience for end users.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain C/C++ services for the infotainment system, focusing on BSP and operating system layers.
- Develop and test drivers and BSP components that enable hardware functionality and system stability.
- Investigate system and BSP failures reported by internal users and external customers, including issues such as black screens, frozen screens, and performance concerns.
- Perform detailed debugging, issue reproduction, and root-cause analysis at OS, kernel, and driver levels.
- Participate in system design activities, including architecture discussions, documentation, and reviews, to deliver a best-in-class infotainment platform.
- Contribute to testing strategies and execution to validate BSP, OS, and driver-level functionality and reliability.
- Collaborate and coordinate work with other teams involved in infotainment, hardware, and platform development.
- Apply Agile development processes and tools to plan, track, and deliver work items effectively.
- Follow software development best practices and coding standards, including MISRA-related concepts where applicable.
- Support system-level investigations and problem-solving across embedded multicore systems and hardware-software interactions.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar scientific field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working on operating systems, kernel drivers, and core services such as file systems, graphics, networking, USB, and WiFi.
- Minimum 3 years of embedded software development experience.
- Strong hands-on C/C++ programming skills at an experienced level, with production software environment experience.
- Proven experience developing and testing BSP components and device drivers.
- Strong understanding of Linux operating systems; QNX knowledge is a significant asset.
- Experience developing software for embedded multicore systems.
- Solid grasp of hardware design, hardware-software interaction, and embedded system architecture.
- Ability to perform detailed debugging, issue reproduction, and root-cause analysis at system, OS, and BSP levels.
- Familiarity with Agile development processes and tools.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills, with a focus on troubleshooting system-level issues related to OS and BSP.
- Proficiency in automation programming and scripting, with mid-level Python scripting skills considered valuable.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with QNX operating systems is a strong asset.
- Exposure to Qualcomm-based platforms.
- Automotive industry experience, particularly with infotainment systems.
- Python scripting experience for automation and tooling.
- Familiarity with software development best practices and coding standards, including MISRA-related concepts.
- Experience using tools like Jira for work tracking and issue management.
- Experience in automated scripting and acceptance testing.
- Demonstrated passion for solving complex technical problems with limited initial information.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with architects and embedded systems specialists across distributed teams.
Work Environment
This position is hybrid, with an expectation of four days per week in the office. The preferred location is Ottawa, offering close proximity to key technical architecture and onboarding support resources, with Oakville considered for exceptional candidates. The team owns the BSP and operating system layers, including kernel-level software, driver-level development, system boot-up functionality, and platform stability. You work in a highly technical environment focused on resolving critical system issues such as black screens, frozen screens, and performance bottlenecks. The broader organization includes approximately 25 team members distributed across Canada, the United States, and offshore locations, fostering collaboration across multiple time zones and technical disciplines. You gain exposure to advanced BSP, OS, and kernel-level engineering challenges, broad ownership of technical problem solving, and opportunities to contribute to current and future-generation infotainment platform programs.

Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $74.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
